Grooming

The Japanese Spitz has a 'double coat'. This means that they have a soft undercoat as well as their harsher top coat.

Because of the origins of the Spitz breeds their coat is 'self cleaning'. Unlike other white coated dogs it is less usual for a Japanese Spitz to get a greasy coat, as typically as your JS dries any dirt will fall (or easily brush) out. Sometimes JS coats are described as Teflon for their cleaning qualities

As a medium/longer coated dog it is important to regularly groom your dog
